Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres 1780-1867 Portrait of Mrs John Mackie Signed and dated 'Ingres à Rome 1816' The French painter Ingres lived in Rome from 1806 until 1820. When the fall of Napoleon put an end to his major commissions, he made a living from pencil portraits. Mrs Mackie was the wife of a Scottish doctor. The drawing shows the effects that can be obtained of pencils. Pencil on paper Given by Winifred M. Giles, in memory of her sister, Alice M.
