Rene Mederos was sent to Vietnam in 1969 by the Cuban government's Department of Revolutionary Orientation. His was sent to paint the war-torn conditions throughout the country's provinces. The finished works were displayed in Hanoi. The images were so popular and evocative that they were translated into a series of posters available for sale. As part of the American anti-war campaign, the Glad Day Press in Ithaca, New York, published this edition whose proceeds funded much-needed medical aid in Indochina.
