Object history
Gérard Leembruggen Jzn (1801–65), Hillegom, his sale, Amsterdam, Roos, Engelberts …, 5–8 March 1866, lot 686 (?): ‘willem van de velde. Vaisseaux de guerre de différentes dimensions, des chaloupes et autres navires. 61 dessins’ (to ‘Lamme’ reputedly on behalf of Locker-Lampson for 630 fl. [the equivalent of £57. 4s. 0d.]); Frederick Locker-Lampson (1821–95), London; from whom purchased (as part of a group of 61 drawings [inv. nos. 4651–4710 and 4696A] by the elder and younger Willem van de Velde) by the museum (L. 1958),10 May 1866 for £57. 4s. 0d.
