Place of origin |
Since the late 1990s Paul Cunningham has explored the peripheries of unspecified and unexceptional English landscapes, focusing on ‘non-subjects’ that are typically overlooked. By depicting these marginal sites with an understated yet precise tone, he offers them up as ‘psychogeographies’ to be explored by the viewer. The significance of the locations lies as much in emotional responses and memories as in the look of the place or anything noteworthy about its geography.
