Object history
Wreath for Oedipus worn by Martin Harvey in Sophocles' play 'Oedipus Rex' performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 15th January, 1912. The play was translated by Gilbert Murray and adapted by W L Courtney. The production was directed and designed by Max Reinhardt.

The wreath was also worn by Donald Wolfit as Oedipus in a version of Sophocles' 'Oedipus' at the King’s Theatre, Hammersmith, 4th February 1953. Version by Sophocles (in two Parts: 'Oedipus the King' & 'Oedipus in Exile'). The play was translated by E. F. Watling.

Part of the Donald Wolfit bequest to the British Theatre Museum Association (BTMA), presented to the BTMA by Lady Wolfit on 24 April 1968.
