Place of origin |
This satire takes a feminist perspective and plays on the conception of war as a typically masculine pursuit. It ridicules the nuclear arms race as a phallic competition between the USA and USSR. During the 1980s the Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp was at the centre of a protest against the deployment of American cruise missiles in Britain. The camp created a wealth of visual protest and probably inspired this poster, which combines feminist and CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) symbols.
