This poster visualises the idea of the 'flame of French resistance.' General De Gaulle had used this metaphor in his famous BBC broadcast of 18 June 1940: 'Whatever happens, the flame of French resistance must not be put out.' In 1944 Free French troops aided by resistance groups (Forces Françaises de L'Intérieur) participated in the liberation of France.
