The Golden Cockerel Press marked the King's Jubilee by publishing a brief text by L.A.G. Strong entitled ‘The Hansom Cab and the Pigeons: Being Random Reflections Upon the Silver Jubilee of King George V'. Only 212 copies were issued of this special limited edition. Strong's text reflects on the threat of nationalism as the world inched towards the Second World War. It was one of three books illustrated by Ravilious for The Golden Cockerel Press. Christopher Sanford, co-owner from 1933 to 1959, called this work 'one of our most successful efforts.'
