'Comparative heights of some of the principal buildings of the world'
Charles Robert Cockerell, about1842

The Cast Courts were originally called the Architectural Courts and intended as a space for 'public instruction'. A huge version of this drawing by the architect C.R.Cockerell hung in the courts when they first opened. It allowed visitors to compare the relative sizes of buildings from different eras and parts of the world, and make connections with the scale of the architectural casts they could see before them.
