The body is 'hygiocérame' (or 'porcelaine de santé'), a highly argillicous (rather than feldspathic) porcelain, which is non-translucent and highly resistant to heat. The glaze is lead-free, hence its reputation for good health. The Saint Uze factory used rubber stamps to decorate the ware. Other factories also made this type of porcelain, including Valognes.
