Production
Acquired as Brussels, 2nd half of the 18th century, reattributed to Rennes and dated to the third quarter of the century following identification of the subject by Hans Haug, who drew attention to another of this subject at the Musée des arts dècoratifs, Strasbourg; Louis-René de la Chalotais was celebrated for provoking the expulsion of the Jesuits from France in 1765 (see letter and notes in Register); for generally similar figures attributed to Rennes and dated to the middle decades of the century see Dorothée Guillemé Brulon, Paris & Rouen - Sources et rayonnement, Histoire de la Faïence Francaise, Paris, 1998, p. 56.
