Object history
Bought from the Rosenheim Sale 3 May 1923, lot 218, where described as a Höchst rosewater ewer and dish (for ewer, which does not match, see C.251&A-1923)
Production
Catalogued as Höchst in the Rosenheim sale; acquired as Marseilles; examined in 1931 by Hans Haug, Director of Strasbourg Museum, who suggested an attribution to a Lorraine factory; reattributed to Lunéville, ca. 1760-80; for an example of the ewer attributed to Lunéville and dated 1760-70 see Dorothée Guillemé Brulon, Strasbourg & Niderviller - Sources et rayonnement, Histoire de la Faïence Francaise, Paris, 1999, p. 108 (top); however, the painting on this basin does not match the ewer.
