Production
Modelled 1758 and on sale by December of that year. The figure is based on Falconet's sculpture of this subject in marble, exhibited at the Salon in 1757, the plaster model for which was exhibited in 1755. See Falconet a Sevres exhibition catalogue, Musee de Sevres, 2001, cat 91A, where the example exhibited is dated 1757-1766.
