Production
Acquired as Crépy-en-Valois. Reattributed to Mennecy, probably by W. B. Honey, who, however, published one of these jars as Mennecy or Crépy-en-Valois. The Crépy mark is 'D, C O'. According to Honey the 'O', separated from the first two letters by a comma, stands for Orléans, although Roth and Corbeiller suggest that it could be the initial of a factory workman; the mark here is 'D, C, P'. The same fluting and similar flower painting are found on marked Mennecy tobacco pots.
