SET MODEL FOR SWAN LAKE 1987 Although an experienced designer, Swan Lake was a new departure for Yolande Sonnabend. Her inspiration came from Tchaikovsky’s score which she considered to be symbolist, nineteenth century and ‘very Russian’. Aware of the need to keep the stage floor empty for dancing she wanted to have ‘fuzzy’ edges and evoke the world of the nineteenth century French artist, Gustave Moreau.
