Every year the fine art handling company Momart commissions an artist to design the corporate Christmas greeting which it sends to customers and contacts in the art world.

This Christmas cracker was commissioned from Mark Wallinger for Christmas 2001. Significantly, it is empty – no gift, no paper hat. With its motto ‘its the thought which counts’ it is intended as a comment on the way in which Christmas has largely lost its original associations as a Christian religious festival and has been ‘re-branded’ as a hollow and meaningless commercial event.
