The manipulation of optical effects is a constant
theme for Martin Smith. Two devices he uses
to achieve this are the application of reflective
metallic leaf, and the use of concealed colour.
The underside of this piece is a deep blue.
Not directly visible, it subtly modifies the light
reflected back through the opening in the base.
