An officer, probably Gurgin Khan, the Armenian general of Nawab Mir Qasim, seated smoking on a terrace, with two servants.
Styles
Historical context
The painting formerly belonged to the Fullarton collection. The painter of this picture Dip Chand used a precise and pallid style. His paintings and those of other painters in his school differed from other Murshidabad court work of the period.
Production
The painting is in the style of the Mughal provincial court painting, in particular Murshidabad school.
