George I is shown in profile facing the the right. Depicted in middle age, he is shown wearing an elaborate long curly wig adorned with a laurel leaf in the style of a Roman Emperor. A piece of newspaper is stuck to the back of the frame.

George I was King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1714 until his death in 1727.

Physical description
The profile relief of the king, in cream wax, is shown facing to the right. Depicted in middle age, he is shown wearing an elaborate long curly wig adorned with a laurel wreath in the style of a Roman Emperor. He also wears Roman style armour with a drapery around the shoulder.

A piece of newspaper is stuck to the back of the frame.

John May (dealer) 40, Kensington Church Street, London W8 4BX sold a box with grisaille enamel painting of Garrick on the lid, based on the same source as this wax (June 1988).
Production
This laureate image is very similar to the wax portrait, and can be compared to Le Marchand's signed portrait of the King all'antica in the British Museum.
