This virtuoso wax relief on a minature scale, set in a tortoiseshell frame, represents the Mocking of Christ. It may have formed part of a series of scenes from the Passion of Christ. The artist, Johann Baptist Cetto (1671-1738), was a native of Tittmoning in Bavaria. The wax is signed 'I.B.C.', the monogram of the sculptor.
