Furnishing Fabric
ca. 1840-1860 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Furnishing fabric of red worsted damask decorated with braid. Possibly part of a pelmet or curtain heading. The pattern (incomplete) is of large stylised flowers and leaves, with stems which loop around each other, in bright, pinky-red damask.
This is the right-hand end of an object, the edge bound at the bottom with a decorative braid in a more purplish red worsted and possibly of linen, with rosettes spaced along its centre, which is also placed flat half an inch in from the right side, and flat across the top, hiding a cut edge bound with plain white linen/cotton tape.
A selvedge runs from top to bottom, neatly seamed to another width of material (both are cut) of which only some 4 inches remains before the cut left edge. At the top, a 2.5 inch tuck has been taken just before the cut, which slices off part of the folds at the very top.
