Place of origin |
This statuette made in Germany, in about 1850-1900, is in sycamore wood. It represents Eve after the engraving by Albrecht Dürer. Although Dürer's prints were a popular source for sculpture from the early 16th century, the smooth quality of these carvings suggest that they are contemporary with their bases and produced not long before 1900 as historicising works rather than fakes intended to deceive.
