This boxwood medal depicts Kaspar and Ulrich von Frundsbery. The identification of the sitters is based on their similarity to a portrait. Ulrich von Frundsberg was admitted as a member of the Teutonic order of Knights in 1507. A number of similar boxwood and composition draughtsmen dating from the sixteenth century exist showing portraits of royalties or famous persons.

Physical description
Four portrait medallions, boxwood. The first bears a double portrait of Ulrich and Kaspar Frundsberg. The features bear a close resemblance to those on the Hagenauer medals Habich and the similariry is specially noticeable in the case of Kaspar von Frundsberg where the subject is shown wearing the same hat, costume and jewel.

Bought in 1934 from Alfred Spero, London, with funds from the Murray Bequest.
Murray Bequest. Captain Henry Boyles Murray (d. 1910) bequeathed works of art to the Museum in 1910, along with £50,000, from which there was an annual income of £2000. It was decided by the Museum to spend this on works of German Art of the Renaissance.
