The wolf is sitting to the left of the image as the crane, viewed in profile, puts its beak down his throat to retrieve a stuck fish bone. By the wolf's front legs, a dead fish lies alongside the skeletal remains of a second fish. To the right of the image stands a tree and the background landscape shows a rocky hill. In the middle-distance, viewed between the two animals, two figures in a boat can be faintly seen.
