Bottle Ticket

ca. 1887 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Bottle tickets identified the contents of a bottle or decanter, which might alternatively contain spirits, sauces, toilet waters or cordials. They were a particularly British phenomenon but this example was made in India, most probably for an English patron as the contents were port.

The variety of styles and materials used for bottle tickets was enormous. Here the maker has combined a boar’s tusk with silver mounts. The tusk is engraved 'O.D. to W.J.S., KOONDAHS 1887'.
