This milk jug is part of a coffee set, designed by Robert Welch for the Orient Line for use on the liner, SS Oriana. It was also used on the P&O liner, the Canberra. One of the biggest single commissions received by Welch was to design the tableware for the Orient liner, SS Oriana (1960-1986) which was designed and manufactured between 1958 and 1960. The Orient Line under the chairmanship of Sir Colin Anderson had consistently developed an enlightened design policy and employed some of the best and most innovative designers and architects of the day in the construction and fitting out of their ships.
