Marks and inscriptions
Mark of Georg Jensen for 1919-27, the silver standard mark 830 / 1000 and (on the fork and teaspoon), the import mark for Sweden. The knife blade stamped, JERNBOLAGET / ESKILSTUNA (the manufacturer of the blade) and ROSTFRI (rust free).
Object history
(Out of box)The original design for this service may not have specified stainless steel for the knife blade since the material was scarcely known outside Sheffield at the time but this set, manufactured in the 1920s, already shows the Scandinavian willingness to exploit this new material for tableware design. By the middle of the 20th century, they had become the world leaders in the design and manufacture of stainless steel tableware.
