Enamel on copper, silver, parcel-gilt mounts, Darmstadt and Paris, ca.1905
Physical description
Inkwell, enamelled copper body with silver, parcel-gilt mounts. Circular, narrowing towards the neck with a separate, domed, hinged lid. Contains a glass liner. The body covered in blue, red and green enamel. Round the lower rim is a cordon of stylised water lily leaves in silver, parcel-gilt.

Marks and inscriptions
  • French standard mark for post 1845 (Marked once on the lower rim and once on the interior of the lid.)
  • Maker's mark: a long legged bird within a triangular lozenge with the letter A in the right hand corner (Unidentified)
Production
The body was probably made and enamelled by Paul Haustein, while in Darmstadt and the silver mounts added later by an unknown Parisian silvermith.
