Elizabeth Clay was born in Mansfield, Nottinghampshire. She studied silversmithing at Sheffield Polytechnic, 1970-73 and at Newcastle University, 1973-74. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1976.

Physical description
Beaker, Britannia silver, the interior gilt, circular base with straight sides, curving slightly outward at the rim. One side of the beaker bears a similar curvilinear design to the one on the decanter (M.252-1977).
