Teapot, (part of a three piece tea service), silver, parcel-gilt, London hallmarks for 1876-77, mark of Edward, John and William Barnard. Urn-shaped body, engraved with bamboo and other plants, cranes, dragonfly and a crest of a gryphon's head holding an implement; collar with a knurled fan and a trail of leaves; similar gilt border above the base; angular cover with a floral trail on canted border; flat top with a knurled zigzag border and finial formed as a cast kneeling figure of a Chinese woman holding a cup in one hand and a lid in the other. Angular handle and spout of bamboo and leaf form. Gilt interior.
