This is a drawing in elevation of the doors and door-case in the former Great Parlour of Thorpe Hall, Longthorpe, Northamtonshire. Thorpe Hall was a mansion built in 1653-1656 during the Commonwealth period by Peter Mills for the Lord Chief Justice Oliver St. John.

Physical description

Elevation drawing in pen, ink, and wash on paper of the doors and door-case in the former Great Parlour of Thorpe Hall. Detailed swirling and floral carving is depicted on the sides and top of the door-case. An inscription and scale are included below the drawing. On the back of the drawing is part of an elevation of the country house. It is made up of three bays with a curved pediment.

'Drawings of doors and door-case in the former Great Parlour (later the Library) of Thorpe Hall, Longthorpe, Northamptonshire. On the back is part of the elevation of the country house of three bays with a curved pediment, the remaining part being drawn on the back of D.1841-1885. These two sheets D.1833, 1841-1885 at one time formed a single sheet.'
