This is a drawing in elevation of doors and door-case on the Principal Staircase of Thorpe Hall, Longthorpe, Northamptonshire. Thorpe Hall was a mansion built in 1653-1656 during the Commonwealth period by Peter Mills for the Lord Chief Justice Oliver St. John.

Physical description
Pen, ink, and pencil drawing in elevation of doors and door-case on the Principal Staircase of Thorpe Hall. Floral and scrolling detailed carving is depicted on the sides and top of the door-case. A scale and some inscriptions are included below the drawing. A section of an elevation of a mansion of three bays with a curved pediment is drawn on the back of the sheet.

  • 'Drawing of doors and door-case on the Principal Staircase of Thorpe Hall, Longthorpe, Northampton. On the back is part of the elevation of a mansion of three bays with a curved pediment. The remaining part being drawn on the back of D.1833-1885. These two sheets, D.1833, 1841-1885 at one time formed a single sheet.' (Inscribed on the back of the external mount, not on the drawing itself.)
