Place of origin |
This lead medal, made in Germany and dated 1512, represents Sebald Schreyer. The style of the medal suggests the work of the nineteenth-century medallist Johann Wilhelm Sommer (b. 1806-1872). According to the compilers of the catalogue of the Kress Collection, the stone model for the medal was in the possession of Freiherr Guido von Volkamer of Munich.
Sebald Schreyer (1446-1520) was the Nuremberg Stadtschreiber and Kirchenpfleger of St. Sebald. The image on this medal may be based on an 18th century engraving after one of the contemporary representations of him.
