This silver-gilt medallion is made by Hans Reinhart (the Elder) in Germany in 1547.
On the obverse it shows the bust of Charles V Holy Roman Emperor (Charles V of Austria).
Hans Reinhardt the Elder was trained as a goldsmith and worked for the Court of Saxony in Dresden.
The object was acquired from the Bernal Collection, a large collection of decorative art, which was formed by Ralph Bernal Esq and sold by Christie and Manson in London in March, 1855.
