This is a silver medal made by the master of the Unterholzer medal. The medal represents Sebastian Unterholzer and his wife Justina Unterholzer.
Habich suggested that the medals representing Sebastian Unterholzer and his two wives were by a medallist active in Nuremberg, or perhaps Munich. The style of the inscriptions recalls Ludwig Neufahrer's work.

Object history | The right to bear the arms of the Unterholzer family was bestowed upon Sebastian on 30 September, 1550. For the family arms and genealogy, see Siebmacher (1983), vol. 26.II, p. 443 and plate 209. Provenance: Tross. 140 medals and reliefs were purchased from M. Henri Tross of Paris for £500 by J.C. Robinson for the Museum in 1867. |
