Tie and Packaging

1950s (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Neckwear became more colourful and more daring in the 1950s. Ties from Italy were predominantly black and gold, complimenting the fashionable black and gold shantung suits popular there. English neckwear offered a compliment to conservative suiting. Parisian designs included some lively prints inspired by famous works of art, well-known landmarks and abstracted or geometric designs. This ripple-like print is an example of fashion designer Christian Dior’s restrained elegance.
