Place of origin |
Four short-horned cows in the countryside. Two are viewed almost in profile, standing and facing to the left of the image. The other two are to the right of the image, lying down close to each other by a tree and looking towards the viewer. To the left of the image, a shepherd with a flock of sheep and goats stands alongside a woman who is sitting on the ground holding a baby. Behind them, in the distance buildings with sloping roofs can be seen.
The image was printed from a plate with rounded corners, using brown ink, which has turned to a rust-red colour in parts.
