Turned ivory lid with rose engine lathe decoration. This lid and its base form one box which is probably an original late 16th or early 17th century box. The base currently contains an 18th century copy after Hans Holbein of Henry VIII. This lid is fitted with glass and houses a piece of paper inscribed by hand 'H Holbein fecit', but still fits snugly onto the base.

| Brief description | Turned ivory lid from a miniature case, anonymous, possibly 16th century. The lid is fitted with glass and houses a piece of paper inscribed by hand 'H Holbein fecit'. Even with the glass cover this ivory lid still fits snugly onto the ivory base containing a miniature portrait of Henry VIII after Hans Holbein, possibly dating from the early 18th century (P.22-1975). |
