This tall vase is an example of ware produced during the Liao (907-1125) or Jin dynasty (1115-1234) and is characterised by a buff stoneware body covered with a variegated brown and black glaze. This vessel was probably used in graves; similar examples were found in tombs of the Liao dynasty in the outskirts of Beijing.
