A pair of women's shoes made of silk., woven in Iran, in a pattern of ornate apricot-coloure flowers and abstract curvilinear shapes in white and green, all surrounded with borders of flowers against a black ground. The quarters and tongue are edged with two strands of narrow metal lace (braid).
The shoes each have a leather sole and white leather rand. They have pointed toes curving upwards and shaped wooden heels.

| Object history | These shoes were made in England for a wealthy gentlewoman. Although their style and production owe much to English fashion and industry of the early 18th century, the silk used to face the shoe was actually produced in Iran, probably at an earlier date. Thus, in a small way, this pair of shoes demonstrates the transmission of artforms and media from the Middle East into Europe. |
