Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This poster by Peter Kennard is one of a set of eight, commissioned by the Stop the War Coalition in 2003, in protest against Britain’s involvement in the US-led war in Iraq. Seven of Britain’s leading artists were commissioned to produce posters. The posters were signed and published in a limited edition of 100.
This poster shows the Earth wearing a gasmask, with missiles coming out of the mouthpiece. The left lense of the mask shows the US flag, the lens on the right the British flag. It simply states the involvement of Britain and United States, how the war and the weapons of war have an effect on the world. The image is threatening and sinister, a simple visual and political statement.
