Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This bowl may have been designed as a sugar bowl for a luxury tea set or as a box for dress accessories or cosmetics. An exquisite, textbook example of Régence ornament, it features borders of gadrooning (convex ribs) and engraved strapwork, moresques, acanthus leaves and trellis patterns on a matted, or punched, background around the body. Bands of beading and the profile of an imperial Roman lady on matted grounds decorate the cover.

Lightbown records varying opinions on maker's mark. Oman suggests Florent Sollier. A similar mark has also been attributed to Paul Manis.
