Place of origin |
Only one single scene of this relief is preserved. In the centre of the framed Corinthian type half column, the Buddha is seated on a low cushion-covered socle, in dharmacakra mudra, among four of his monks. The sanghati falls softly over his body. The hair leads from his forehead to the flat usnisa. Behind the head a nimbus is framed by two hanging branches of the bodhi tree. At each of the two sides are shown two monks in dhyanamudra sitting one behind the other on low socle. Thie hands are covered by their sanghatis, with shaven heads.
