This dish is an example of the Régence style. The term ‘Régence’, named after the regency of Phillipe d’Orleans of France, refers to a period between the 1680s and 1720s when a taste for controlled forms and simple, elegant decoration was in vogue. The style spread from France to neighbouring countries and beyond.
