Pair of Ewers

18th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

These vases have appeared in several different media. The original design was created by the French painter Jacques Stella (1596-1657) in the 17th century. Stella’s niece Françoise Bouzounet made an engraving of the design which appeared as plate 18 in Livre de Vases (1669). This example was modelled in bronze after Stella’s design sometime between 1700 and 1800. The Meissen porcelain factory in Saxony produced a ceramic version of the design in about 1732.

Production
