Skirted doublet with long sleeves and high collar in brown pink linen, overlaid with vertical stripes of black braid forming a shallow V front and back, and horizontal stripes on the box pleated skirt and on the cuffs. At the upper sleeve is a 'puff' of white cotton and at the neck and cuffs are box pleated off white muslin frills. The body is lined with cotton twill and fastens down the back with hooks and eyes.

Physical description

Object history
The costume was worn by Michael Hogan when Frederick Ashton's ballet Capriol Suite was mounted for the Sadler's Wells Theatre Ballet in the mid-1940s. The ballet was an evocation of early dances performed to Peter Warlock's music of the same name.
