In 1878, eight architects, including William Burges, were invited to submit drawings for the Truro Cathedral. With an orthodox 13th century composition in mind, his designs show the church made up of two west end towers, three portals, and a crossing spire with a free use of sculptural ornamentation throughout. After preliminary drawings though, he never completed or submitted his designs. Therefore his plans for the cathedral were not carried out in the built form.

Pencil drawing on paper of the elevation of an interior space, likely the crossing, of Truro Cathedral. The Gothic Revival style space is filled with pointed arches, finials, and lancet and rose windows. A small sketch of the plan of a portion of the space is drawn in the bottom right corner.
