This staff head or badge was made as a prize for the winner of an archery guild competition and the inscription translates as 'Good luck to C. van Breedam now Emperor of the Guild'. A competition winner was known as king of the guild and if he held his position for three successive years he was named Emperor (Keyser). This prize depicts three birds, presumably popinjays (an early term for parrots), used by archers for target practice.
