Beaker

1797 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This beaker was made by the workshop of goldsmith Andreas Lude (1743-1796), evidently after his death when his business passed to his widow. Lude's workshop produced some of the most sophisticated silver of late 18th-century Bergen. As the design of this piece is relatively simple, it must have been made for a humbler class of client, perhaps a fishing captain. The decorative pendant discs are a feature of many Scandinavian drinking vessels.
