Object history | From Catalogue of Scandinavian and Baltic Silver, RW Lightbown, V&A, 1975, p105: 'The maker's mark is that of Ernst Peter Michelsen Romer (1719-77) who was working as a goldsmith from 1747 in Kristiania ... For an inventory of his possessions taken in 1778 after his death, for Romer himself and for reproductions of 3 pieces by him in international styles see H. Grevenor and Th. B. Kielland (Gullsmedhaandverket i Oslo og Kristiania, Oslo 1924) ... The identification is supported by the crowned C of the town mark, since the town mark of Kristiania from c. 1629 until c. 1785 consisted of a crowned C with two, later four, figures for the year.'
